Your Smile Restoration Options

Traditional

If dental implants in Auckland are not an option for you, there’s good news: today’s dentures are better than ever. They look more realistic, feel more comfortable, and restore your ability to eat and speak better than the dentures of decades past. We offer a wide range of styles and materials to suit your preferences and budget.

Traditional Partial Dentures

Traditional partial dentures in Auckland are used when some, but not all, teeth are missing on a single arch. Your partial denture will be worn during the day and kept in a cleaning solution at night. However, this approach does not suit everyone, leading most of our patients to opt for dental implants instead.

Traditional Complete Dentures

Traditional full dentures in Auckland replace all of the teeth on an arch. The denture is designed to fit over your gums and be held in place with saliva or a denture adhesive. Patients with low salivary flow or medical conditions that cause dry-mouth can find complete dentures difficult to manage. Combining flexible acrylic and ultra-thin titanium makes modern dentures comfortable and strong for most patients with good oral health.

Immediate Dentures

If you're having teeth extracted, you don't need to go without a smile while you heal. Immediate dentures are custom-made before your extraction appointment and fitted on the same day your teeth are removed, so you leave with a full set of teeth in place.
Because your gums will continue to change shape as they heal, immediate dentures are designed as a temporary solution in the first instance. We'll monitor your fit over the following months and adjust, reline, or replace your immediate denture with a permanent set once your gums have fully settled. This staged approach means you're never without teeth, even during the healing period.
Immediate dentures are a good option if you:
Have upcoming extractions and want to avoid any gap in your smile
Need to keep working or attending social occasions during treatment
Want a smoother transition into full or partial dentures

Implants

You may be afraid to smile because your denture wobbles, or be too self-conscious to eat at restaurants. Implants offer an advanced solution for securing dentures, providing exceptional stability and comfort. While traditional dentures may require periodic adjustments as your mouth naturally changes over time, implant dentures remain firmly in place and provide many benefits to patients who also struggle with irritation and oral sores.

[read_more]This enhanced stability makes everyday activities like speaking and eating more comfortable and natural, improving functionality and increasing confidence in your smile. Although dental implants can be an expensive investment in yourself, the improvements to your quality of life and daily comfort make it worthwhile. [/read_more]

Implant-Supported Partial Dentures

Implant-supported partial dentures in Auckland, also known as implant-supported bridges, are an option for patients who are missing a few adjacent teeth. With these, you can snap in your dentures each morning and remove them each night for cleaning.

Implant-Supported Full Dentures

When all teeth on a single arch are missing, we turn to implant-supported full dentures to replace them. If you’ve struggled with loose traditional full dentures, you will appreciate implant-supported dentures that will feel very stable in your mouth, allowing you to eat and speak with confidence.

Fully-Fixed Complete Tooth Replacement

While our other implant-supported denture options can be removed for cleaning and sleeping, fully fixed, complete tooth replacement is a denture option that is secured in place at our office and cannot be removed at home. You’ll brush your denture to clean it just as you would with your original teeth. These types of dentures in Auckland, NZ look, feel, and function the most like natural teeth.

Denture Repairs & Relines

Broken or ill-fitting dentures aren't just uncomfortable; they can stop you from eating properly and knock your confidence overnight. Our Auckland practice offers denture repairs and relines, with same-day appointments available for cracks, chips, and breaks whenever possible.

Common repairs we handle:

  • Cracked or broken denture bases

  • Broken or missing teeth on an existing denture

  • Loose clasps on partial dentures

  • Relines to correct a denture that has become loose as your gums have changed shape

If your denture no longer fits snugly, don't wait. Ill-fitting dentures can accelerate bone loss and cause sore spots. Bring your denture in and our team will assess whether a reline, repair, or replacement is the right fix. Many minor repairs can be completed the same day you visit.

How Much Do Dentures Cost in Auckland, NZ?

Denture costs vary depending on the materials used, the number of teeth to be replaced, and whether you choose a traditional or implant-supported option. As a general guide for dentures in Auckland:

  • Partial dentures: approximately NZ$800–$2,500, depending on plastic vs titanium framework

  • Full (complete) dentures: approximately NZ$2,000–$4,500 per arch, depending on material and craftsmanship

  • Implant-supported overdentures: approximately NZ$6,000–$15,000+ per arch, depending on the number of implants placed and whether it's a removable or fully-fixed solution

These figures are indicative only. Your exact cost will depend on your individual clinical needs, which we'll confirm during your consultation.

If cost is a barrier, you may be able to access a Disability Allowance or Special Needs Grant through Work and Income to help cover dental treatment, including dentures. Ask our team for a formal quote you can submit as part of your WINZ application.

Deciding Between Traditional Dentures and Implant-Supported Dentures

A note from our dentists…

“We see the pain of floppy dentures every time as we visit Rest Homes around this practice.”

As patients grow older, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's can lead to uncontrollable muscle movement in the mouth. Patients find it very difficult to eat and chew and nursing staff see older individuals literally starving. With implants, caregivers can easily pop the dentures onto the implants, and eating is a breeze.

If you’re deciding between implant-supported dentures and traditional dentures in Auckland, here are some factors to consider:

  • Traditional dentures do not require an invasive surgical procedure.
  • With traditional dentures, your jaw structure will change and break down over time, which can cause a prematurely aged appearance.
  • Implant-supported dentures offer more stability and comfort.
  • Although today’s traditional dentures are more realistic, they’re still not as realistic as implant-supported restorations.
  • Traditional dentures are more affordable than implant-supported dentures.
  • Dental implants feel more natural. If you’ve already suffered bone loss in the past, you may need a sinus lift or bone grafting before dental implant surgery.

Our first patient was an 80-year-old lady who felt she was not young enough to benefit from them. After the procedure, she wondered why she had not done this earlier. Another lady hugged our team and said they had fixed her husband’s teeth and saved her marriage. As both cosmetic dentists and denture experts, we understand how important it is to restore not just function, but confidence too.

Ultimately, every patient is different, with unique needs, dental histories, preferences, and budgets. The best way to determine which option is right for you is to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists to discuss dentures near you in Auckland.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to adjust to new dentures?

Most patients take several weeks to adjust to traditional dentures fully. During this period, you might experience changes in speaking patterns and eating habits as you learn to manage your new teeth.

The adjustment period for implants is typically shorter and more straightforward. Once the initial healing is complete, most patients find implants feel normal within a few days as they function like natural teeth.

How long do dentures last?

Our quality traditional dentures typically last 5-7 years before needing replacement. This is because your mouth naturally changes shape over time, and regular wear and tear affects the denture materials. Traditional dentures in Auckland may need periodic adjustments or relines between replacements to maintain their best fit and function.

Implant-supported dentures offer a longer-lasting solution. The implant posts, which are securely placed in your jawbone, can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. They provide a stable foundation to attach your crowns or dentures to, which typically last 15-20 years or more before needing replacement.

Is immediate denture fitting possible after tooth extraction?

Yes, we can fit temporary immediate dentures on the same day as your extractions. These are prepared in advance and placed straight after tooth removal, allowing you to maintain your appearance and basic function while your gums heal. As healing progresses and your gums reshape, we will adjust your immediate dentures or craft your permanent set for an optimal fit.

For suitable candidates wanting implants, we also offer immediate-load dental implants that allow us to place both the implant and a temporary crown during the same visit. Once your implant fully integrates with the bone, we’ll replace the temporary crown with your permanent one.

How do I clean my dentures?

Remove and rinse your denture after eating to clear away food particles, and brush it daily with a soft denture brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner (avoid regular toothpaste, which can be too abrasive). Soak removable dentures overnight in a denture-cleaning solution to keep them fresh and free of bacteria. Fully-fixed dentures are brushed in place just like natural teeth.

Can I eat normally with dentures?

Yes, though it takes some adjustment. New denture wearers often start with softer foods and gradually reintroduce firmer or chewier foods as they build confidence. Implant-supported dentures generally restore chewing function closest to natural teeth, since they don't shift while you eat.

Will my speech change with dentures?

Some patients notice a temporary change in speech, particularly with certain sounds, when they first start wearing dentures. This usually settles within a few weeks as your tongue and mouth muscles adapt to the new fit. Practising reading aloud can help speed up the adjustment. Speech changes are typically less noticeable with implant-supported and fully-fixed dentures, since they don't move around in the mouth.

Can broken dentures be repaired the same day?

In many cases, yes. Minor repairs, such as a crack in the base or a broken tooth, can often be fixed while you wait. More involved repairs or relines may need to stay with our lab overnight. Contact our Auckland practice as soon as your denture is damaged so we can assess the fastest turnaround for you.
